Dendrobium phalaenopsis is widely used by florists because of its interesting look (the butterfly-shaped) and the ease of maintenance of Dendrobium species.

To see them bloom, give it light but never direct radiation because it is very sensitive. In winter, only up to 6 hours of sun in summer and 12 hours are sufficient: consider veiling your windows. Same for the temperature, neither too cold in winter nor too hot in summer, like yourself can we say. Note however that the hybrids, they are generally cultural hot: So keep between 30-25 ° C day and 18-20 ° C at night.

Its substrate consists mainly of pine bark should be kept aerated and not too dry nor drowned between waterings which take place every 4 days. Again, it’s up to you to judge their frequency depending on substrate conditions. This is mainly due to pine bark, go with the draining of treated coal. Finally, remember not to air it frequently to avoid any form of rot, and especially no draft, it would head, and would develop poorly.

The roots of Dendrobium phalaenopsis can be damaged by a concentration of too much fertilizer. The fertilizer plant just enough green to each watering, but stop fertilizing during the growing canes and resume the appearance of spikes, then logically stop again after flowering.

It is an orchid that follows the seasons, you will see the new canes and roots in spring and in summer you can admire their maturation. In the following season, you will witness the growth of flower heads and, finally, winter flowers “butterflies” in your eyes venues.

Stop fertilizing and watering space the when the new canes reach the same size as those of the previous year (for a plant that bloomed already), then use the information provided on the light and watering. The (or) flower spike appears on the upper nodes of the cane when it has finished its maturation. Repeat slowly watering and fertilizer use, continue to give plenty of light (within the limits indicated) until the development of pimples.

The protect light is too strong a thing, cut the sun entirely is another. If it does not get enough it can also refuse to flower.
